Grassroots Nest for Innovations and Change (GRiC) is a locally led, non-profit organization that partners with grassroots organizations and local governments to create a network of agencies and stakeholders that promotes quality education for children and youth in East Africa. We work in the informal urban settlements of Nairobi and the hard-to-reach pastoralist areas in Laikipia and Kajiado counties of Kenya, Arusha areas of Tanzania, and Northern Uganda.
Key Activities
Children’s Learning:
To see every school become a vibrant place: a safe, and inclusive learning environment, driven by effective teaching, strong instructional leadership, and collaboration among all stakeholders with students developing the strength and skills of character to thrive and succeed.
Recent Impact:
ALP has reached 56,000 learners with significant gains in ASER scores. In Kenya where we seeded the work and we have conclusive data, on average, “story-level” learners grow by 32% and non-readers drop to below 5% at endline from 19% at baseline. We have reached 20,183 caregivers. Qualitative data indicates that participants, including fathers, report improved ability to communicate with teachers, engage in activities with their children, and advocate for friends to support learning at home and school.
Vision for the Future:
A world where all children access quality education and realize their full potential.
