About The Education Partnerships Centre (TEP Centre)
Founded in 2016, The Education Partnerships Centre (TEP Centre) focuses on improving the design, implementation, and evaluation of education initiatives by fostering scalable partnerships. While TEP works across several domains—including capacity development, research, monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL), program design, and convenings—its contributions to the FLN space have been pivotal in advancing learning assessments, advocacy, and remedial education.
Learning Assessments:
- TEP spearheaded the LEARNigeria citizen-led assessment, which engaged a massive sample size of 49,000 learners to highlight the stark reality of learning poverty in Nigeria.
- The assessment garnered international recognition, emphasizing the urgent need to address foundational literacy and numeracy gaps among Nigerian children.
Public-Private FLN Partnerships:
- By adopting a co-creation approach, TEP developed a prototype for large-scale FLN cooperation, uniting government agencies, civil society, and community stakeholders.
- This model facilitated nationwide programming, setting a precedent for collaborative efforts in addressing educational inequities.
Remedial Learning Initiatives:
- In Kano, TEP’s remediation program halved the proportion of non-readers and increased foundational-level readers by 32% in Akwa-Ibom within just 25 days.
- During the COVID-19 pandemic, TEP introduced the Zo Mu Koya Tare (KOYA) low-tech remediation program, leveraging SMS to guide parents and caregivers.
- Outcomes:
- 33.5% of learners advanced by at least one literacy level.
- 35% of learners improved by at least one numeracy level.
- Outcomes:
- Global Influence: LEARNigeria established a robust framework for citizen-led assessments and sparked global dialogue on learning poverty.
- Innovative Solutions: The KOYA program proved that low-tech, parent-led interventions can drive significant FLN improvements even in resource-constrained settings.
- Rapid Gains: TEP’s remediation efforts delivered measurable results in record time, reducing learning disparities in underserved regions.
